The Sierra Leone High Commission in Ghana was reopened in 2000 as one of its 91 foreign representations in Ghana and one of 84 foreign representations in Accra.
The Commission in Accra is one of 56 Sierra Leonean diplomatic and consular representations abroad. It is located at Plot 50 Fourth Circular Road, Cantonment, Accra, Ghana.
It comprises six (6) diplomatic staff which includes the High Commissioner, Head of Chancery, Counsellor, First Secretary, Information and Financial Attache, with fourteen (14) local staff.
The Sierra Leone High Commission offers consular services to non-Sierra Leoneans who require visas to travel to Sierra Leone, as well as facilitates individuals and businesses interested in investing in Sierra Leone.
Furthermore, it facilitates visa processing for Sierra Leoneans, requiring services from both foreign missions in Ghana and the Government of the Republic of Ghana.
The High Commission has a medical wing that handles Sierra Leoneans coming to Ghana for medical facilities. This includes liaising with medical experts and assisting the patients until they fully recuperate and return home.
The High Commission also accords dignitaries from Sierra Leone protocol services (including facilitating meetings, transit services, and general protocol courtesies). Other support to Sierra Leoneans in Ghana is provided on a case-by-case basis as and when required.
Administratively, the High Commission deals with the general management of the mission including writing note verbale communicating specific messages to Ghana’s Foreign Ministry, all diplomatic missions in Ghana as well as relaying messages to and from embassies and high commissions resident in Ghana with accreditation to Sierra Leone.
Public administration should be committed to the design and pursuit of appropriate policies that would further the real development interests of all.
