Sierra Leone's High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, attended the opening ceremony of the 2025 China-West Africa Medical and Health Industry Expo and AI Diagnosis Deployment and Project Cooperation Summit.
Held at the Accra International Conference Centre's Grand Arena, the event brought together over 1,000 participants from 16 West African countries, including leading Chinese and international manufacturers in medical services, pharmaceuticals, and digital health.
Ghana's Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, declared the summit open, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in addressing health sector challenges.
He urged participants to leverage the summit to build resilient systems and harness the potential of technology.
President of the Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA), Shiong Jiang, highlighted the summit's goal to enhance healthcare through innovative ideas, technology, and collaboration.
She stressed that West Africa must utilize AI to solve local health needs, promote local production, partnership, and innovation.
Other speakers, including Tang Hong, Chairman of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan of the West African Traditional Medicines, and Dr. Caroline Reindorf Amissah, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Services, emphasized the significance of AI in improving healthcare facilities and the need for greater collaboration.
After the ceremony, High Commissioner Kaisamba visited various booths showcasing pharmaceutical products and services. The summit will run from 20th to 22nd August 2025, with discussions on nephrology, oncology, ophthalmology, and AI in traditional medicine.
