The Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Government of Japan on 28th May signed an exchange of Notes on Japanese Grant Assistance under the economic and social development program (ESDP) totaling 600,000,000 Japanese yen (4million dollars).
This grant aid is intended to support developing countries by promoting its economic and social development efforts, including scarcity reduction.
The signing ceremony was held at the Chancery of the Sierra Leone High Commission in Accra, Ghana with Sierra Leone’s Government represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba and Japan’s Government represented by the Ambassador of Japan to Sierra Leone, H.E MOCHIZUKI Hisanobu.
Ambassador of Japan to Sierra Leone, H.E MOCHIZUKI Hisanobu in his statement stated that the strong bilateral relations between both countries have been developed over a long period since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Japan wishes to empower farmers in Sierra Leone in achieving food sufficiency
Responding, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister of Sierra Leone, Timothy Kabba expressed appreciation to Japan for the support, noting that Sierra Leone will continue collaborating with Japan to strengthen this valued partnership, while citing the continued support of both countries even at the United Nations Security Council with a view of promoting global peace.
He said Sierra Leone will ensure the support from Japan is put into good use for the benefit of the country.
Present at the signing ceremony also were High Commissioner Francess Virginia Anderson (PhD) of the Sierra Leone High Commission, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security and Farid Alghali Director, Legal Affairs Division Ministry of Finance.
